This is a certificate which may be issued to anyone who has successfully completed a national boating license or has passed an assessment to prove the required competence for operating pleasure craft. (Note: certain jurisdictions do not adhere to the relevant international treaty and therefore do not issue the ICC. Check with your national certification body).
If you have successfully completed your RYA Day Skipper Practical or RYA Powerboat Level 2, you can apply immediately and directly to the RYA for an ICC. You must do this within 12 months of completion of the course. In this case it is free to RYA members. After that you will be required to take an independent assessment comprising both practical and theory elements. A fee for this will be charged, and you will also have to pay for the certificate.
An ICC must be renewed every 5 years.
