Turn your passion for powerboating into a teaching career with the RYA Powerboat Instructor course. This 4-day course equips you with the skills and confidence to train the next generation of powerboaters. By the end of the course, you will be confident in preparing, delivering, and managing training sessions, as well as communicating effectively with students and customers.
This course is run from our training centre in Haslar Marina. You will spend time in our onsite classroom looking at key topics such as session planning, briefing and debriefing techniques and practically running sessions on the water.
Our location right inside the entrance to busy Portsmouth Harbour provides ample opportunity to practice close quarters boat handling. This will include coming alongside, slow speed and confined space handling, mooring buoys and, of course man overboard recovery. We’re just minutes away from the Solent where driving at planing speed and high-speed manoeuvres can be taught in open water.
Course Outcomes
- Develop your instructional technique both afloat and ashore.
- Learn how to deliver safe, effective and engaging sessions.
