- Recognising an emergency situation which may lead to abandonment
- Safety equipment carried aboard
- Abandoning to a liferaft
- Survival techniques
Real emergencies at sea leading to abandonment are mercifully rare. But if something catastrophic was to happen to your vessel, surely there is peace of mind in knowing how to deal with the situation. RYA Sea Survival is a thought-provoking theory and practical course intended for anyone who spends time afloat.
At the heart of this course is a detailed overview of how and when to use the safety equipment on board your boat. This includes the strengths and limitations of personal safety equipment, liferafts, the equipment they contain and how to launch them, survival techniques, medical aspects of sea survival, and search and rescue techniques. It introduces you to the essential knowledge needed in order handle an emergency situation such as full evacuation.
A combination of theory and practical pool time, you will experience what it is like to launch, board and work inside a SOLAS type liferaft, including how to manage and support injured or incapacitated crew members, set up a survival routine, and manage a crew in genuine distress.
