Embark on an exciting Silver DofE Expedition that takes your sailing skills to the next level! Over five days, you’ll complete your RYA Competent Crew qualification while fulfilling both the practice and qualifying expeditions required for your Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award.

What to Expect on Your Silver DofE Expedition:

• Days 1-2 (Practice Expedition): Your journey begins with a thorough safety briefing and berthing practice on the first morning. Set sail to The Solent, one of the UK’s best sailing locations, to prepare for the main expedition. During these days, your supervisor will help you plan your expedition goal and menu plan for the upcoming adventure.
• Days 3-5 (Qualifying Expedition): Dive deeper into sailing as you complete the full RYA Competent Crew syllabus. You’ll navigate through various ports and anchorages, honing your skills and working closely with your team to achieve your group goal.

Your Expedition:

• Expert Instruction: Guided by an experienced instructor, you’ll master essential sailing techniques, safety procedures, and teamwork skills.
• Assessment and Debrief: At the end of the expedition, your assessor will conduct a debrief where you’ll present your group goal. You’ll receive valuable feedback to help you grow as a competent crew member.
• Pre-Expedition Planning: Before setting sail, your supervisor will assist you in organising your meal plan and finalising your team’s objective, ensuring you’re fully prepared for the journey ahead.

Course Outcomes

• You will experience living on board and really get to know the boat.
• This is a 5 day course enabling you to become fully immersed in life aboard a typical cruising yacht.
• It’s very likely you will spend time with others taking courses such as RYA Day Skipper, and playing a part in helping them to achieve their certificates, at the same time as building your own confidence and knowledge.
• Successful completion leads to the RYA Competent Crew Certificate.
