RYA Start Yachting

If you’ve always wanted to learn how to sail a yacht, then this is definitely the course for you.

No experience necessary, RYA Start Yachting is a 2 day introduction to sailing and life aboard a typical cruising yacht. It’s an ideal first step for complete beginners.

Learn to sail in a safe and fun environment with our expert team at our base on the solent. During your time aboard you will be offered the chance to participate fully, enabling you to understand how to participate and contribute as an effective member of crew.

By the end of the course you will have experienced:

• Steering a yacht
• Sailing a basic course
• Sail handling
• Rope work
• Awareness of safety on board.

And who knows? This may just be the beginning of whole new journey for you.

The RYA Start yachting course is based out of our centre at Haslar Marina. Close to Portsmouth and ideally situated for unrivalled access to the Solent.

N.B. We require that all students under 16 are accompanied by an adult. If you are 16 or 17 and wish to book the course unaccompanied by an adult, please contact our office to discuss whether this would be suitable.  

Course Outcomes

• At the end of this course you’ll have a basic understanding of what life on board a yacht can be like.
• The course can count towards Competent Crew.
• You will leave with a much better idea of whether you would like to spend more time on the water.
• Successful completion leads to the RYA Start Yachting certificate.
