This is a coaching and development course primarily aimed at existing owners who want to improve their confidence and fluency in boat handling under power or sail. However, it is also a great opportunity for inexperienced crew to get more practical experience of being aboard and contributing to the working of the boat. There is no set programme – we build it entirely to match your needs and aims.
On the course you might revisit topics such as tide and wind awareness; manoeuvring around marinas and in confined spaces, leaving and returning from your berth, setting up lines to spring on and off, and dealing with handling characteristics caused by phenomena such as prop walk and windage. At sea we will look to help you with areas such as vessel and crew management, application of collision regulations, setting your boat up for safety and performance.
There is no certification for this course – just the expectation that with more help and support you will be able to handle your vessel with greater confidence – and get more enjoyment and satisfaction from your boating experience.
