Classroom training isn’t for everyone. It may be that you prefer to work at you own speed. Or perhaps you simply cannot find the time in a busy schedule to commit to a live training event. Online training may be the answer for you.

RYA Online Theory Courses

We offer the following online courses.

  • RYA Day Skipper Theory Online
  • RYA Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster ™ Offshore Theory Online
  • RYA Coastal and Yachtmaster ™ Ocean Theory Online

All of these courses are delivered by our trusted training partner, and fully supported by our experienced and knowledgeable tutors. All courses lead to certification.

Your course booking provides a comprehensive training pack, your log in, substantial instructor support and 6 months access.

We also offer a range of RYA Interactive courses from Essential Navigation and Seamanship, through SRC (Radio), to the specialist Professional Practices and Responsibilities (PPR) course for those targeting a career in the marine sector.

RYA Professional Practices and Responsibilities (PPR) (Online)

The marine sector is highly regulated and governed by complex legislation – much of it derived from international treaty as well as government agencies. The RYA Professional Practices and Responsibilities (PPR) (Online) course helps you to navigate through the key areas of the regulations as they apply to you, taking you to vital information sources and bringing the regulation to life with case studies and exercises. It is an interactive course, with an assessment at the end.

Duration: Approximately 8-10 hours
RYA Marine Radio SRC (Short Range Certificate) – (Online)

RYA Marine Radio Short Range Certificate (SRC) is the minimum qualification required to operate marine VHF radio equipment on a UK flagged vessel.  

Duration: A minimum of 10 hours self-study
RYA Essential Navigation and Seamanship (Online)

This course is the perfect introduction to those who are new to boating and want to equip themselves with a basic knowledge of navigation and safety.

Duration: A minimum of 18 hours self-study is recommended
RYA Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster ™ Offshore Theory (Online)

RYA Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster™ theory (Online) is an advanced course that builds on the knowledge gained at the RYA Day Skipper Theory level.

Duration: Approximately 50-60 hours study, 5 hours assessment (can be done in 3 parts)
RYA Day Skipper Theory (Online)

Boating is best enjoyed when you can make informed and confident decisions about where to go, when to go and how best to manage your vessel for the enjoyment and safety of all. The RYA Day Skipper course provides a comprehensive introduction for all would-be skippers and navigators whether sail, power or motor.

Duration: Approximately 40 hours study with a 2 part, 2 hour assessment
